Severina Lemachokoti is a member of the Washington End FGM/C Coalition and actively supports the implementation of Washington State’s FGM/C law passed in 2023. She serves as a Community Advisory Board (CAB) member and collaborates with the Department of Criminal Justice in developing educational materials and resources on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C).
Severina is an Educator and a mental health professional, child protection social worker, and advocate for survivors of gender-based violence, Severina is also a survivor of FGM/C. She courageously uses her lived experience to advocate for the rights, safety, and empowerment of girls and women. Her passion and leadership have led her to speak on various national and international platforms, including the United Nations, and to contribute to global research initiatives focused on ending FGM/C. She is a board member of various organizations, including Days For Girls International, an organizations that advocates menstrual hygiene education and the use of reusable sanitary towels.
Severina holds a Master of Liberal Studies degree with concentrations in Community Psychology, Sociology, and Women’s Studies from Wichita State University, Kansas, and a Bachelor’s degree in
Counseling Psychology from Mount Kenya University. She also holds several professional certifications, including Mental Health First Aid and Grief Counseling.
