About me
Jalang Conteh serves as the Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) Implementation Specialist at Mother Africa, where she supports the implementation of Washington State’s FGM/C Prevention and Response Project. In this role, she collaborates closely with community organizations and partners to develop culturally grounded educational materials, strengthen survivor-centered services, and advance community-led prevention efforts. She also contributes to provider training and technical assistance and supports the coordination of government roundtables that promote statewide collaboration on FGM/C prevention and response.
Jalang is a public health and gender equity practitioner with more than a decade of experience working at the intersection of gender equity, sexual and reproductive health, and community-driven program design across several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. She brings extensive expertise in community-based advocacy, program implementation, research, philanthropy, and consulting. Her work is grounded in amplifying grassroots leadership and advancing approaches that are culturally responsive, locally driven, and rooted in dignity and equity.
Jalang holds a Master of Public Health in Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Michigan State University, where she also studied Women and Gender Studies and Global Public Health.
