About me
Terri Stewart has been a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) with Harborview Abuse & Trauma Center (HATC) since 2002 and has dedicated her career to advancing trauma-informed forensic nursing care. She previously served as the Health Program Operations Manager for the HATC SANE Team and Medical Program and currently serves as Assistant Nurse Manager for the HATC SANE Training Program. Teri holds a pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Certification (SANE-P).
Since 2005, Terri has been a faculty member and trainer for the HATC SANE Training Program, providing education and mentorship to nurses throughout the Pacific Northwest. She has also presented nationally and internationally on forensic nursing, domestic violence, and trauma-informed care. In 2013, she completed specialized training in the forensic evaluation of non-fatal strangulation and routinely provides expert testimony in strangulation-related criminal cases.
Terri is an active leader in multidisciplinary and statewide efforts to improve responses to sexual assault and domestic violence. She serves on the Washington State Attorney General’s Office SAFE Advisory Workgroup, is a member of the King County Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), and is a trainer for the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission, where she provides education on sexual assault and domestic violence investigations for law enforcement professionals.
Terri earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, in 1989. Prior to specializing in forensic nursing, her clinical practice focused on the care of children and adolescents.
