About me
Dr. Carolyn West is an award-winning Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Washington, expert witness, author, and consultant who has investigated gender-based violence in the lives of Black women for more than three decades. She has authored more than 100 publications, including the book Violence in the Lives of Black Women: Battered, Black, and Blue and the 4-part National Resource Center on Domestic Violence’s Technical Assistance Guidance Series: Serving Black Women Survivors of Intimate Partner Violence.
Dr. West has given hundreds of keynote addresses, workshops, and presentations around the country and has been interviewed by national media outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, and CBS News. She has been a featured expert on Red Table Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith and documentaries, including Chris Brown: A History of Violence and Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. In recognition of her academic achievements, Dr. West was awarded the University of Washington’s 2013 Distinguished Teaching Award, 2016 Distinguished Research Award, and the first Bartley Dobb Professorship for the Study and Prevention of Violence (2005-2008).
